Richard L. "Dick? Humphreys, 80, of 929 21st Avenue SW, Cedar Rapids, died Tuesday, February 24, 2004, in St. Luke?s Hospital, Cedar Rapids, following a brief illness. Services: 11:00 a.m., Saturday, February 28, 2004, at First Christian Church, Cedar Rapids, by Rev. Dr. James Chesnutt. Family will greet friends from 4-8 p.m., Friday, February 27, 2004, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids. Entombment: Linwood Cemetery Mausoleum, Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include his wife, Evelyn; a sister, Alice Broxey; and many family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers, Charles Humphreys and John Humphreys Jr.
Dick was born October 13, 1923, the son of John H. and Orpha Bethel (Pollock) Humphreys, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. He married Evelyn Wise on September 19, 1947, in Cedar Rapids. Dick worked for Hur-Mon Bottling Company and then Swiss Valley Farms Dairy for over 30 years before retiring in 1983. He was a member of the First Christian Church for 56 years, Teamsters Retirees and was an active bowler in the Cedar Rapids area for many years. Dick enjoyed woodworking, fishing and rose gardening. He was an avid Hawkeye and Cubs fan.
