Richard J. “Homer” Greene, 78, of Robins, and formerly of Marion, died Saturday, July 4, 2009, at St. Luke’s Hospital, Cedar Rapids. Services: 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, July 7, 2009 at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center, Marion, by Rev. Steve Benton. The family will greet friends from 4 ?" 8 p.m., Monday, July 6, 2009 at the funeral home. Burial: Oak Shade Cemetery in Marion. Military rites will be provided by Marion American Legion Post 298.
Survivors include his children, Calette Greene of Marion, Karla Wilford of Robins, and Joe Greene of Marion; 4 grandchildren, Zachary, Tara, Cheyenne, and Niki; 2 brothers, Bob and Bill and 1 sister, Lucille.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, and 1 sister, Betty.
Homer was born October 10, 1930, the son of Al and Irene (Morey) Greene, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. He married “Dee Dee” Johnston in 1954. She died in 1978. Homer was employed at the Iowa D.O.T. for 36 years, retiring in 1992. He served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War and was a member of the Marion American Legion Post 298.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in Homer’s memory.
