Richard Dean Hill, 74, of Hiawatha, died Wednesday, April 14, 2010, at his home of lung cancer. Memorial Services: 10:30 a.m., Monday, April 19, 2010, at Kenwood Park United Methodist Church, Cedar Rapids, Iowa, by Rev. Laura Smith. The family will greet friends from 2–5 p.m., Sunday, April 18, 2010, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center, Marion. Inurnment: 3:00 p.m., Monday, April 19, 2010 at Winfield Scott Township Cemetery, Winfield, Iowa.
Survivors include his wife, Rita (Knight) Hill; two sons, Stuart and Jeffrey, both of Homestead; three grandsons, Angus, Blake (Allison), and Chad, all of Cedar Rapids; one great-granddaughter, Rilynn Rae Hill; one brother, Duane (Pat) Hill of Lake Lotawana, MO; and a sister-in-law, Eloise Hill of Winfield.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Maynard.
Richard was born March 30, 1936, in Burlington, Iowa, the son of Elbert L. and Pauline J. (Van Syoc) Hill. He graduated from Winfield Community School, Class of 1954 and Iowa Wesleyan College in 1958. Richard was a member of the National Guard from 1959-1964. On June 26th, 1960, Richard was united in marriage to Rita Knight at the Methodist Church in Strawberry Point. Richard worked a short time at Collins Radio and 31 years at Rapids, Inc. He was a member of Kenwood Park United Methodist Church since 1962, Phi Delta Theta, Eastern Iowa Purchasing Association and Eastern Iowa Ducks Unlimited.
