Richard Arnold Halferty, 74, of 386 16th Avenue SW, Cedar Rapids, Iowa, died Thursday, March 8, 2007, in Mercy Medical Center, Cedar Rapids, due to complications of renal failure. Services: 1:00 p.m. Monday, March 12, 2007, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids, by the Rev Del Bear. The family will greet friends from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday, March 11, 2007, at the funeral home. Burial: Linwood Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include his wife of 50+years, Patricia; his children, Stephen (Dallas) Halferty of Irving Texas, Theresa (Daniel) Bine of Marengo, Iowa, and Timothy (Melissa) Halferty of Cedar Rapids; his grandchildren, Erika LeAnna Trevino, Sarah Kathryn Halferty, Logan Jeffrey Bine, Jessica Ann Bine, Whitney Ann Kathryn Halferty, Maggie LaVon Hope Halferty and Nikki Elizabeth Louise Halferty; a brother, Robert (Margaret) Halferty; and a sister, Delores Ryan of Bellflower, California.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and a sister, Lois Sullivan.
Richard was born October 2, 1932, the son of Guy and Carolyn (Whitney) Halferty, in Agency, Iowa. He served with the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. On December 1, 1956, Richard was united in marriage to Patricia Ann Kerkove. He worked for the United States Postal Service, retiring after 30 years and prior to that he worked for Amana Refrigeration. He was a member of NALC Local #373. A nature lover, Richard loved to go fishing and hunt mushrooms. He also enjoyed traveling and was a Cub fan.
