Richard Joseph Frasher, 79, formerly of Marion, died Wednesday, April 9, 2008, at Jones Regional Medical Center in Anamosa from complications of a massive stroke. Funeral Mass: 10:30 a.m. Monday, April 14, 2008, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Marion by Father Greg Bahl. Visitation will be from 2-6 p.m. Sunday at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center in Marion where a parish vigil service will begin at 5:00 p.m. Burial: Holy Cross Cemetery in Anamosa.
Survivors include his children, Michael (Lynne) Frasher of Seoul, Korea, Julie (Dan) Conmey-Miller of Anamosa, Patty Frasher of Anamosa, Ellen (Brian) Pospichal of Anamosa, Dennis (Karla) Frasher of Anamosa, and Jenny Frasher of Anamosa; and eight grandchildren, Clifford Frasher of St. Louis, James Conmey of Anamosa, Jessica Smith of Anamosa, Quinten Frasher of Waco, Texas, Matthew Frasher of Dyersville, Tony Taylor of Anamosa, Zachary Frasher of Anamosa, and Ashley Frasher of Anamosa.
Also surviving are two sisters, Betty Lou Peterson of Cedar Rapids and Kathleen Crouse of Cedar Rapids; two brothers, David (Irene) Frasher of Marion and John (Sandy) Frasher of Marion; and his former wife, Margaret Bishop of Anamosa.
He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, William Jr., James, Edward, and Robert Sr.; and a sister, Mary Little.
Richard was born April 3, 1929, the son of William and Lucy (Minnis) Frasher in Stone City. He attended school in Stone City and Prairieburg. Richard served with the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict, earning the rank of Sergeant. He married Margaret Houska at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Monticello in 1952. They were married for twenty years and later divorced. Richard worked for Dearborn Brass Company for thirty-eight years until they closed. He later worked for Apache Hose and Belt for fourteen years.
Richard was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Stone City for forty-three years, American Legion Post No. 298 of Marion, IBEW, and International Association of Machinists.
Military honors will be provided by American Legion Post No. 298 of Marion.
