Richard Harold Finley
July 26, 1933 — December 30, 2007
Richard Harold Finley, 74, of Marion, died Sunday, December 30, 2007, at his home surrounded by family. He died of a 5-year courageous battle with cancer.
Services: 1:00 p.m. Friday, January 4, 2008, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center, Marion, by Rev. Joe Kane, with Military Honors. The family will greet friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial: Oak Shade Cemetery, Marion, Iowa.
He married Carol Jean “Miller” Finley on March 6, 1965. At that time, she had three children: Gary (Karen) Long of Florida; Randy (Melanie) Long of Cedar Rapids; and Sandra (Andrew) Barnebey of Texas. Carol went to be with the Lord March 1, 2001 and Sandra went to be with the Lord September 29, 2006. At the time, Richard had 4 children: Pat (Jay) Brown of Arkansas; Kathy (Ken) Wolf of Wisconsin; David Finley of California; and Roberta (Randy) Finley of Texas. After being married one year, they had Amy Finley of Marion, together.
Richard also has three sisters and one bother: Robert, Donna, Sharon, and Mildred; numerous grandkids and great-grandkids.
He served eight years in the Naval Reserves and Navy and was in active service for two years.
Richard enjoyed spending time with his family, going to the senior dances and the people that he met there; cruising around in his convertible and going to car shows; and spending time with his loveable, faithful dog, “Little Girl”.
The family would like the thank all of Richard’s friends and neighbors who were there for him. A special thanks to all the nurses with Hospice of Mercy, Dr. Nabi and Chaplin Joe Kane. God Bless all the wonderful care that he received.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in Richard’s name.
