Richard E. “Dick” Trinkle, 73, of 130 Thompson Dr. SE, #208, Cedar Rapids, IA 52403, died Monday, October 11, 2010, at the Dennis & Donna Oldorf Hospice House in Hiawatha. Funeral Service: 11:00 a.m. Friday, October 15, 2010, at Zion Lutheran Church, Hiawatha by Rev. Daniel Krueger. Family will greet friends from 5-7 p.m. on Thursday, October 14, 2010, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Cedar Rapids and one hour prior to services Friday at the church. Burial: Linwood Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include his wife, Charlaine; 4 children, Mark (Pamela) of Springville, Matt (Sheila) of Cedar Rapids, Marian Hogan of Marion, and Marty of Cedar Rapids; 12 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; a sister, Dorothy Frasher; mother-in-law, Lorraine M. Willia of Cedar Rapids; brother-in-law, Bob Willia of Cedar Rapids; and sister-in-law, Christin Rosell-Huenemann (Paul) of Cedar Rapids.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Raymond Keith “Jack” Trinkle; niece, Cheryl Trinkle; sister-in-law, Pamela Rosell; brother-in-law, James Frasher; and father-in-law, Henry Willia.
Dick was born March 31, 1937, in Jewell, Iowa, the son of Lawrence and Geneva (Crawford) Trinkle. He attended school in Webster City then joined the United States Navy in 1956. He was a Metalsmith 3rd Class on U.S.S. Chemung, serving in Japan and East Asia. Dick was united in marriage to Charlaine Rosell on December 17, 1960, at Zion Lutheran Church in Hiawatha by Rev. Gilbert Meseke. He worked as a welder for Allis Chalmers, as a lineman and meter reader for Linn County REC in Marion, was in regional maintenance for Target Stores, worked at the Heartwood Children’s Home in Cedar Rapids, and Barnes Manufacturing in Marion, as well as being a self-employed carpenter.
Dick was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Hiawatha. He served as Scout Master in the 1970’s for Boy Scout Troop 123 of Cedar Rapids. Dick enjoyed playing cards, riding his motorcycle, hunting, and fishing.
