Richard (Dick) Allen Scotter, 70, of Marion, died Sunday, May 13, 2012, at Willow Gardens Care Center in Marion. Funeral Service: 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, May16, 2012, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center in Marion. Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.
Survivors include his wife, Joni of Marion; two sons, Richard (Monalisa) Scotter and Michael Scotter; two grandchildren, David Allen (Tifani) Scotter and Jennifer Marie Scotter; two great-grandchildren, D.J. and Zackary Scotter; a sister, Phyllis (Dave) Ann Scotter Kittelson; a brother, Jim (Mary) Scotter; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant daughter, Heather Marie; and his brothers, Robert and Eugene Scotter.
Dick was born May 24, 1941, the son of Raymond and Ferne (Belkstrom) Scotter in Esmond, South Dakota. He graduated from Iroquios High School in 1959 and then earned his bachelors degree from South Dakota State. He served with the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam War. On April 15, 1961, he married Joan Marie Hollarbush at the Air Force Chapel in Biloxi, Mississippi. Dick was involved in the feed business and worked for Vigortone for 25 years before retiring.
Dick was an adventurous soul. He loved being outdoors camping, fishing, hiking, and kayaking. He also would test his endurance by participating in long distance bike trips with his family in Vermont, and in Iowa. His passion was aviation and he had attained his private pilot’s license. After retirement he began building his own plane, an experimental Zenith Zodiac, which he loved.
Memorials may be directed to St. Luke’s Hospice or to the charity of the donor’s choice.
