Richard "Dick" Mullin
September 15, 1946 — October 25, 2015
Richard “Dick” Mullin, 69, passed away at the Dennis and Donna Older Hospice House of Mercy due to a lengthy illness. A time to celebrate Dick’s life will be held from 4-7 Wednesday, October 28, 2015, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids. The family request casual dress. Private burial will be held at Linwood Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Richard was born September 15, 1946 in Cedar Rapids. After graduating Thomas Jefferson High School, he served in the U.S. Army’s Fourth Infantry Division during the Vietnam War. Upon his return, he graduated from Kirkwood Community College. Richard married Sharon Smith on June 13, 1970. They remained together for 45 years. For 38 years, Dick worked as an electrical engineer at Iowa Precision Industries. With a belief in fostering education in his field, he volunteered as an advisory member at Indian Hills Community College for several years.
One of Richard’s greatest passions was woodworking. Over his lifetime crafted numerous pieces of furniture and donated numerous hours to Habitat for Humanity. In recent years, Richard took up woodcarving as a hobby. Richard had a great love for the outdoors. He loved camping, golfing, fly fishing, Dutch oven cooking and hunting. Richard donated countless of volunteer hours to several conservation minded organizations and their causes over his lifetime.
Those left to cherish his memories are his wife, Sharon; sons, Bradley and Brenton (Rebecca), all of Cedar Rapids; three grandchildren, Kimberly, Alexus and Jasper; and brothers, Thomas of Lake Worth, Florida and Michael of Turtle Lake, Wisconsin.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents, Harry and Bernice; and a twin brother, Robert.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Hawkeye Fly Fishing Association, Cedar Valley Woodcarvers or Habitat for Humanity.
