Richard “Dick” “Deda” Paul Miller, 86, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, passed away Friday, July 6, 2018, at the University of Iowa Hospital, Iowa City, surrounded by his family. Visitation: 4:00 - 8:00 p.m. Thursday, July 12, 2018, at The Legacy Center Murdoch-Linwood, Cedar Rapids with Rosary at 4:00 pm. Funeral Mass: 9:00 a.m. Friday, July 13, 2018, at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church, Cedar Rapids where friends may call from 8:00 – 9:00 a.m. Interment: St. John’s Cemetery, Cedar Rapids. Military rites provided by the American Legion Post #671, Swisher, Iowa and the United States Air Force Honor Guard.
Dick was born September 24, 1931, in Cedar Rapids, the son of Andrew and Frances (Charipar) Miller. On July 24, 1954, Dick and Frances Jean Fitzpatrick were united in marriage at St. Ludmila Catholic Church. He is an Air Force Veteran. Dick served on the Cedar Rapids Police Force for over 38 years, retiring in 1998 as Lieutenant. He was a member of both St. Wenceslaus and St. Ludmila Catholic Churches as well as a member of the American Legion Post #671, Swisher. Dick loved attending daily mass and spending time with his family.
He is survived by his three sons, Stephen (Carmen) Miller of Cedar Rapids, Mark (Cindy) Miller of Van Horne, Tom (Sue) Miller of Swisher; nine grandchildren, Josh, Lieutenant Jarad (Nicole), Chris (Erin), Curt (Megan), Ben (Bobbi), Nic (Dawn), Justin, Luke, Angela (Bobby), and Kaylese; twenty-three great-grandchildren; sister, Marie Miller of Ely; brother, Jim (Katie) Miller of Ely; sister, Bette Spencer of Casper, Wyoming; and sister-in-law, Rose Miller of Cedar Rapids.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Andrew and Frances Miller; wife, Jean; brother, Don Miller; and sisters-in-law, Colleen and Patricia Fitzpatrick.
