Richard D. Klein, 74, of 996 County Home Rd., Springville, died Saturday, October 7, 2006, at St. Luke?s Hospital in Cedar Rapids, following a lingering illness. Funeral Mass: 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, October 11, 2006, at St. Isidore Catholic Church in Springville. Burial: Springville Cemetery, with military honors. Visitation will be from 4 - 7 p.m. Tuesday at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center in Marion. Visitation Honor Guard: Iowa City Fire Department Honor Guard.
Survivors include his wife, JoAnn; a daughter, Nancy (Tom) Collingwood of Garfield Heights, Ohio; two sons, Dennis (Marilyn) Klein of Council Bluffs, Iowa, and Michael (Tai) Klein of Gainesville, Florida; two stepchildren, Kelly (Sue) Koch of Iowa City and Karla (Rick) Stessman of West Des Moines; three grandchildren, Katie and Megan Collingwood and Emara Klein; three stepgrandchildren, Andy and Alex Koch and Hannah Jo Stessman; and a brother-in-law, Dale (Carol) Lassen of Springville.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Dick was born October 27, 1931, the son of Frank N. and Eleanor Potter Klein in Cleveland, Ohio. He graduated from Benedictine High School in Cleveland, attended Bowling Green State University in Bowling Green, Ohio, for two years, and Simmons School of Mortuary Science in Syracuse, New York, for one year. Dick was proud to be a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps. Dick served in the Korean Conflict and was awarded the Purple Heart. In 1953, he married Barbara Geyer and they later divorced. On April 26, 1986, Dick and JoAnn (Lassen) Koch were united in marriage in Marion, Iowa. Dick was a casket salesman for thirty-six years. He was a member of St. Isidore Catholic Church and American Legion Post No. 331, which will provide graveside military honors.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in Dick?s memory.
