Richard F. "Dick" Hockaday
February 2, 1936 — December 29, 2008
Richard “Dick” F. Hockaday, 72, of 1010 Eastern Dr. SE, Cedar Rapids, died Monday, December 29, 2008, at Mercy Medical Center, Cedar Rapids, following a long illness. Services: 11:00 a.m., Friday, January 2, 2009, at Our Savior Lutheran Church, Cedar Rapids, by Pastor Phillip Jorgensen. The family will greet friends from 4 ?" 7 p.m., Thursday, January 1, 2009 at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center, Marion. A private graveside service will be held.
Survivors include his wife, Sharron; his children, Scott (Robin) Hockaday of Cambridge, Iowa, Stacy Hockaday of Colorado, and Kurt (Nancy) Hockaday of Marion, Iowa; seven grandchildren, Seth, Abby, Justin, Gabe, Jake, Aaron, and Tyler; and two sisters, JoAnn Bockenstedt and Susan Hockaday.
Dick was preceded in death by his parents.
Dick was born February 2, 1936, the son of Francis and Berniece (Nagel) Hockaday on a farm outside of Manchester, Iowa. He married Sharron Hagelberg on September 17, 1961. Dick served in the U.S. Army. He worked at Wilson and Co. for thirty-six years. Dick was a member of the Our Savior Lutheran Church in Cedar Rapids. He was an avid softball player and enjoyed bowling and golf as well.
