Richard Tompkins Haughenbury, 89, of Coggon, died Sunday, March 11, 2012, at Willow Gardens Care Center, Marion. Services: 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, March 14, 2012 at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Central City, by Monica Carpenter. The family will greet friends from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, March 13, 2012 at the funeral home in Central City.
Survivors include his wife, Margaret; his children, Gary (Barb) Haughenbury of Marion, Linda (Charles) Liston of Marion, and James (Anita) Haughenbury of Coggon; eight grandchildren, Chad (Casey) Haughenbury, Amy(Symon) Sanborn, Todd Liston, Luke (Jamie) Haughenbury, Bret (Jen) Haughenbury, Jana (Tim) Dolan, Bryan Wermager, and Brandi Wermager; 11 great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Lucille Haughenbury; one nephew; and several nieces.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers; and two sisters.
Richard was born June 5, 1922 in Marengo, IA, the son of Clayton and Mabel (Tompkins) Haughenbury. He attended grade school in Benton County and married Margaret DeKesel on August 1, 1942 in Victor, IA.
Dick, as he was known by family and friends, was a life-long farmer. For many years he did custom farming, combining corn and beans. He was happiest in his John Deere combine, and never complained about the long hours he spent in it.
Grandpa loved his family, especially the little great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in Dick’s memory.
