Richard “Dick” Francis Ferreter, 88, of 625 31st Street SE, Cedar Rapids, formerly of Marion, died peacefully at his home on Sunday, July 1, 2007. Funeral Mass: 1:00 p.m., on Friday, July 6, 2007, at All Saints Catholic Church in Cedar Rapids by Father David O'Connor. The family will greet friends from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 5, 2007, at Murdoch Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Marion, where a vigil service begins at 6:30 p.m. Burial: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery in Cedar Rapids. Military honors will be provided by American Legion Post #298 of Marion.
Surviving are nieces and nephews. They include the children of Ed and Eileen Ferreter: Marc (Mary) Ferreter, Bill (Mary) Ferreter, Mary (William) Stanley, Margaret Ferreter, Lois (Rodney) Ocenosak, and Robert (Gretchen) Ferreter; and the children of John and Betty Ferreter: David Ferreter, Kevin (Nancy) Ferreter, Ann (Eric) Parson, Paul (Mary Kay) Ferreter, Patrick (Debbie) Ferreter, Rick (Jill) Ferreter, and Michael (Michele) Ferreter.
Dick was preceded in death by his wife, Maxine; his parents, John & Margaret; one sister, Eileen; and four brothers, Emil, Marc, Edward, and John.
Dick was born the son of John and Margaret (Burns) Ferreter on January 9, 1919, in Independence. He served with the US Army in the North African Campaign of WWII. He married Maxine Bendorf in 1957 at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Nevada. She passed away on February 14, 1996. Dick worked for the US Postal Service for many years before retiring in 1981.
