Richard “Dick” D. Benson, 68, of Luzerne, died Tuesday, December 6, 2011, at Mercy Medical Center. Services: 11:00 a.m. Friday, December 9, 2011, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Cedar Rapids by Rev. Dan Hoeger. Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Burial: Linwood Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include his wife, Cynthia of Luzerne; a daughter, Paula (Shawn) Holub of Marion; two grandchildren, Cassidy and Tyler Holub; his siblings, Donna Benson, Dianne (Larry) Brannaman, Jean Hlavacek, and Ronald Benson, and Donald Benson, all of Cedar Rapids, Larry (Judy) Benson of Solon; and a sisters-in-law, Julie Benson and Carole Turner, both of Cedar Rapids.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Robert Benson; two sisters-in-law, Sharon & Sarah Benson; brother-in-law, Dave Turner; and nephews, Brett & Jeff Benson.
Dick was born July 24, 1943, the son of Kenneth and Violet (Henecke) Benson in Cedar Rapids. On September 22, 1962, he married Cynthia Turner in Marion. Dick worked for Universal Engineering for over 30 years.
Dick was a member of the Eagles and the Machinists Union #831. He enjoyed camping, fishing, hunting, going to auction sales, playing cards and having a few drinks with his friends.
