Richard “Dick” M. Armstrong, 79, of Marion, died Monday, February 7, 2011, at St. Luke’s Hospital in Cedar Rapids. Funeral Service: 11 a.m. Thursday, February 10, 2011, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center in Marion. Family will greet friends from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Inurnment: Millersburg, Iowa, at a later date.

Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Doris; children, Deborah (David) Post, Steven (Shelia) Armstrong, and James (Karen) Armstrong; grandchildren, Lisa, Tammy (Jacob), Jennifer (Cameron), Adam, and Brooke; great-grandchildren, Noah, McKenzie, and Sage; a sister, Carolyn DePauw; 2 sisters-in-law; a brother-in-law; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother-in-law, Marvin; and great-grandson, Jacob.

Dick was born January 3, 1932, in Grinnell, the son of Ernest and Florence (Johnston) Armstrong. He graduated from Brooklyn High School then served in the United States Navy during the Korean Conflict. On February 8, 1958, Dick was united in marriage to Doris Cram in Brooklyn. Dick worked as a lineman for Linn County REC for 37 years. Dick enjoyed fishing, gardening, and a good joke. He was a handyman and loved his family greatly. Dick was a member of the American Legion Post #298 of Marion.
