Richard Joseph Barnes
December 31, 1937 — January 25, 2006
Richard Joseph Barnes, 68, a resident of Hawthorne Hills, Cedar Rapids, died Wednesday, January 25, 2006, at Veterans Affairs Medical Hospital, Des Moines, following a long illness. Services: 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, January 31, 2006, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids, by the Rev. Del Bear. Family will greet friends from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday, January 30, 2006, at the funeral home. Burial: Linwood Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include his children, Gayle Darby, Cindy Garcia and Richard Barnes, all of Fresno, California; and a sister, Karen Gilbertson of Robins.
Also surviving are his brother-in-law, Carl Gilbertson; four grandchildren, Cody, Jacob, Jeremiah and Joseph; and three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Dorothy Barnes; three brothers, Albert, William Jack, and Edward; and three sisters, Helen Dvorak, Maxine Drahos and Betty Gardner.
Richard was born December 31, 1937, the son of William and Dorothy (Shannon) Barnes, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. He served in the United States Air Force. Richard was married to Dorothy Bean Barnes, who died in 1999. He worked for Collins Radio and then for 30 years became an over the road truck driver. Richard was a fun loving person and will be dearly missed by his family and friends.
A memorial fund has been established in memory of Richard.
