A lifelong resident of Central City, Richard Miles Ammeter, 78, died in his home at 2416 Bever Avenue SE, Cedar Rapids, on Friday, August 18, 2006, following a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. Services: 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, August 23, 2006, at Zion Presbyterian Church in Coggon by the Rev. Kurt Walker. Burial: Coggon Cemetery, with military honors. Friends may call from 4 - 8 p.m. Tuesday at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center in Marion.
Survivors include his wife, Phyllis of Cedar Rapids; his children, Tracie Ann Maurice and husband John of Cedar Rapids, Cheryl Lynn Owen and husband Rick of Dallas, Texas, Christian Frederick Ammeter and friend Rhonda Simmons of Central City, and April Leigh Ammeter and friend Rick Sakane of Manhattan Beach, California; grandchildren, Mellette Louise and Miles Nicholas Maurice of Cedar Rapids, Jesse Harrison and Carmen Ann Owen, and honorary granddaughter, Ludmila Murray, all of Dallas, Texas, Anthony Alan, Crystal Leigh and Evan Michael Ammeter, and honorary grandson, Jackson Simmons, all of Central City; and a brother, Gary Ammeter and wife Phyllis of Blue Grass, Iowa.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Carmen.
Richard was born January 4, 1928, on the family farm in rural Central City, to Fred and Ann (Brenzikofer) Ammeter. On December 11, 1953, he and Phyllis Louise Evans were married at Zion Presbyterian Church in Coggon. He was an Army veteran of the Korean Conflict. Richard and Phyllis farmed side by side on the farm that has been in the Ammeter family since 1900. He was a faithful member of Zion Presbyterian Church.

Graveside military honors will be provided by American Legion Post No. 362 of Coggon.
