Richard L. Allbones, 77, of Center Point, died Tuesday, June 2, 2009, at St. Luke’s Hospital. Memorial Service: 10:00 a.m. Friday, June 5, 2009, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Center Point by Rev. John Caughron with military honors. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Thursday at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Center Point.
Survivors include four children, Frank (Kathy) Allbones of Cedar Rapids, Ed (Sonja) Allbones of Cedar Rapids, Marie Allbones of Shellsburg, and Larry (Tracy) Allbones of Toddville; three grandchildren, Becky Hippert, Shannon Moore, and Frank (Nana) Allbones; four great-grandchildren, Jordan, Melody, Leah, and Molly; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Melba and a son, Floyd.
Richard was born May 24, 1932, in Center Point. He served with the U.S. Marine Corp. during the Korean Conflict and received several medals of Honor. On August 16, 1952, he married Melba Lindell. She died March 2, 2008. Richard worked at Iowa Manufacturing, farmed, and worked at Cedar Rapids Golf Courses.
