Rhoda M. Vontalge, 96, of Manchester died Saturday, February 2, 2013 at the Good Neighbor Home in Manchester.
Funeral Services will be at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, February 6, 2013 at the United Methodist Church in Manchester by Rev. Mike Druhl. Visitation will be from 3:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m., Tuesday, February 5 at the Bohnenkamp-Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Services in Manchester. Additional visitation, one hour before services at the church on Wednesday. Burial will be in the Oakland Cemetery, Manchester.
Rhoda was born June 22, 1916 near Colesburg, IA, the daughter of William and Ella (Jung) Hartbecke. She graduated from the Colesburg High School in 1936. On January 13, 1939, Rhoda was united in marriage to Roy E. Vontalge at her mother’s home.
Rhoda was a homemaker and also a woman of faith. She enjoyed gardening, sewing, quilting, and playing cards. She was a member of the Manchester United Methodist Church, the Calico Cut-ups and two card clubs. She was a collector of teddy bears and Longenberger baskets. Rhoda was known for her homemade angel food cakes she made for any occasion.
Rhoda is survived by two children, Gary (Dona) Vontalge and Linda (Ron) Gearhart both of Manchester; three grandchildren, Alan (Lisa) Vontalge of Johnston, Kevin (Melinda) Gearhart of Marion, and Jaci (fiancé, Adam Hamlett) Vontalge of Manchester; four great-grandchildren, Emma and Hunter Vontalge and Cameron and Megan Gearhart.
Rhoda was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Roy; and four siblings, Louis Hartbeck, Velma Hammerand, Hulda Hammerand, and Floyd Hartbecke; and a brother-in-law, Ray Vontalge.
