Rebecca Lynn Schultz, born July 10, 1965, in St. Paul, Minnesota, to Bette and James “Chick” Vanderbeek, died peacefully in her sleep on December 31, 2013, unexpectedly, to say the least. A Celebration of Life will take place 11:00 a.m. Saturday, January 4, 2014, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center, Marion. The family will greet friends from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Friday, January 3, 2014, at the funeral home and one hour prior to the Celebration of Life on Saturday. A private family burial will take place at a later date.
Rebecca was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend. Her pride and joy was her children, giving up everything to raise and protect them. She put everyone ahead of herself, helping all and giving words of wisdom to anyone in need of help. She reentered school after her children were raised and as a non-traditional student, maintained a 4.0 grade point average at Kirkwood and Mt. Mercy University. She was one semester shy of her Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology and was looking forward to acceptance into the Master’s program for Marriage and Family Counseling. She was always willing to help other students and enjoyed the verbal exchange of ideas. She was an excellent debater, I know I never won and argument. Fortunately, we saw eye to eye most of the time. She maintained this high grade point average despite a full time job as office manager at her and her husband’s business, Schultz Chiropractic Clinic for 26 years. Her duties there are too numerous to list and she attacked them with the same tenacity as everything else she did in life, at full speed and with full attention. She will be missed by staff and patients alike.
Left behind to mourn her loss, are her husband of 25 years, Dr. Ronald Schultz; their two children, Ronald (Emily) Schultz Jr., and Jessica (Jeffrey) Fitch; her three step-children, Zachary (Kelly) Schultz; Aubrey Schultz Sutton, and Nicholas (Amanda) Schultz; 12 grandchildren; sister, Sandra McDonald of St. Paul, MN; brothers, Ted (Kristen) Vanderbeek, and Kenneth (Julie) Vanderbeek; mother-in-law, Bonnie (Virl) Deal; and her closest friends, Leigh and Rachel Sagstetter. Also surviving are her sisters-in-law, Sheila London of Mason City and Deb Vanderbeek of St. Paul, MN, and many nieces and nephews.
Rebecca was reunited in Heaven with her brother, Terry Vanderbeek; her parents, Bette and James Vanderbeek; and her father-in-law, Elmer Schultz.
