Raymond Joseph Wyman, 79, of Springville, died May 3, 2014 at Jones Regional Medical Center, surrounded by his family. Funeral Service: 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, May 7, 2014, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center in Marion by Pastor John Keizer. Visitation will be from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home and one hour prior to the service. Burial: Springville Cemetery.

Ray was born on April 5, 1935 to Lumir and Eleanor (Blin) Wyman. He grew up farming in northern Linn County and graduated from Springville High School in 1953, where he played basketball and baseball, and participated in the band and choir. On November 1, 1953 he married Twila Pederson at the Springville United Methodist Church. Together, they raised two sons, Doug and Todd.

Ray worked driving truck and selling John Deere for Schwitters Inc. and Baxter Dvorak Implement, and retired as Fire Chief from Rockwell Collins in 1998. Ray and Twila enjoyed summers fishing at their cabin in Waupeton and around their pool. Ray was an avid hunter, snowmobiler, and he loved to dance. Ray spent many years coaching baseball, including his sons’ teams, and loved watching his children and grandchildren play sports. Ray was a volunteer fireman for over 55 years for the Springville Fire Department, including numerous years as Chief. Ray was a long time member of the Linn County Firefighters Association and the Iowa Firefighters Association.

Ray is survived by his sons, Doug (Kim) and Todd (Jennifer) all of Marion. Also surviving Ray are his grandchildren, Cal (Kristin), Curt (Caiti), Cassi (Alan Wilhelm) and Katie Wyman; great-grandchildren Trevor, Avery, Wyatt, Landen, Kinnick and Kayden; sisters-in-law Mareta “Butch” (Douglas) Ralston and Roxie (Dennis) Popper, cousin Jean (Jim) Menster, Jim Woodworth, and several nieces, nephews, and friends.

Ray was preceded in death by the love of his life, Twila, his parents, Lumir and Eleanor, his brother Leon, an infant sister, sister-in-law Charlene Clark, and nephews Marty Clark, and Lance and Matthew Ralston.
