Raymond L. Watson, 86, a resident of the Iowa Veterans Home, Marshalltown, Iowa, formerly of Cedar Rapids, died there Tuesday May 29, 2007, following a brief illness. Services: 2:00 p.m., Friday, June 1, 2007, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids, by the Rev. Bill Harnish. The family will greet friends from 1 to 2 p.m. at the funeral home the day of the service. Burial: Linwood Cemetery, Cedar Rapids, with military honors.
Survivors include his daughters, Judy (Henry) Day of Cedar Rapids, Carol (Joe) Dighton of Springfield, Missouri and Brenda (George) Gibbons of Cedar Rapids; grandchildren, Angela Wilcoxson, Eric (Kasey) Day, JoAnn (Joshua) Barker, Gail (Mike) Shrope, Jenny Lentz and Jason Gibbons; 14 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Evelyn (Ron) Bridgeman of Cedar Rapids.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Helen; his parents; two brothers, Bill and Gene; a daughter, Verna Adams; and two infant daughters.
Raymond was born December 18, 1920, in Cedar Rapids, the son of William and Alma (Hines) Watson. On February 17, 1951, he married Helen Sewell. She died December 11, 1992. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII. Raymond was a diesel mechanic and a driver for over 25 years for builder’s materials.
He was a member of the Salvation Army and the Teamsters Local #238.
A memorial fund has been established in Raymond’s memory.
