Raymond LaVerne Henderson, 89, of Marion, formerly of Arlington, passed away, Tuesday, May 3, 2016, at St. Luke’s Hospital, Cedar Rapids. Memorial Service: 2:00 p.m. Friday, May 6, 2016, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Marion, conducted by Pastor Jon Moss.
LaVerne is survived by his wife, Celia; children, Terry (Mary) Henderson of Arlington, Debbie Henderson of Coon Rapids, Minnesota, Colin (Wende Kelsey) Henderson of Cedar Rapids, and Denise Henderson of Mechanicsville; 7 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; and his special cat, Pinky.
He was preceded in death by his parents and seven siblings.
LaVerne was born April 18, 1927, in Coggon, Iowa, the son of Cliff and Hazel (Smola) Henderson. He served in the United States Army during World War II. On November 23, 1947, he married Celia Jane Henderson at the Presbyterian Church in Coggon. LaVerne enjoyed woodworking and traveling but most of all, he loved his children and grandchildren and they were very important to him.
