Raymond "Dell? Ferguson, 85, of Urbana, died Tuesday, January 6, 2004, in his home, following a long illness. Services: 2:00 p.m. Thursday, January 8, 2004, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Center Point, by the Rev. Leo Anderson. Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, January 7, 2004, at the funeral home. Burial: Urbana Cemetery, Urbana, with military rites.
Survivors include his wife, Bernita; three daughters and sons-in-law, Susan and Brian Kramer of Center Point, Colleen and David Giebler of Hiawatha, and Connie and Michael Waltermyer of Cedar Rapids; a sister and brother-in-law, Vanita and Bud Smith of Urbana; seven grandchildren, Steve and Tobi Kramer, John and Brenda Wyckoff, Major Anne Andrews, Craig and Miranda Wyckoff, Chris and Courtney Kramer, Scott and Joy Andrews, and Matthew Wyckoff; his stepgrandsons, Brad and Anne Waltermyer and Dax Waltermyer; eight great-grandchildren, and five stepgreat-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers, Donald and Joe.
Raymond was born April 3, 1918, the son of Clifford and Myrtle Thompson Ferguson, in rural Vinton. A graduate from Urbana High School in 1937, he was united in marriage to Bernita Sanborn on December 26, 1946, near Brandon. Raymond served in the United States Army during World War II in the 947th Field Artillery Battalion in the South Pacific and was awarded the Bronze Star.
He worked in road construction and farming. Raymond also operated the Conoco tank wagon service and the Conoco Station in Urbana.
He was a member of the Christian Church and the Urbana American Legion Post 264, where he served as past commander. Raymond also served as an Urbana Volunteer fireman for many years.
