Raymond G. Bonebrake, Sr., 85, of Marion, died Saturday, September 20, 2008, at Mercy Medical Center, following a long illness. Services: 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, September 24, 2008, at Central Assembly of God in Cedar Rapids by Rev. Mark Thomas and Joe Kain. Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. Tuesday at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center in Marion. Burial: Oak Shade Cemetery in Marion with military honors by American Legion Post No. 298 of Marion.
Survivors include his wife, Irene Bonebrake of Marion; his children, Raymond G. (Barbara) Bonebrake, Jr. of New Sharon; Rex (Jackie) Bonebrake of Marietta, Georgia; Sean (Aimee Wagner) Bonebrake of Tipton; and Kevin (Debra) Brubaker of Cedar Rapids; a sister, Ione Shrope of Marion; many loving grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren; and dear friends, Bob (Jenny) Miller and Marshall (Beverly) White.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife; an infant brother, Ora Dee; a daughter, Connie Bonebrake; a son, Richard Lee Bonebrake; a grandson, Robbie Bonebrake; two brothers-in-law, Nick Shrope and Glenn Watson; and two sisters, Maxine Watson and Lela Bonebrake.
Raymond was born March 19, 1923, the son of Alva and Frankie (Newman) Bonebrake in Center Point. He attended Cedar Rapids Schools until joining the U.S. Navy. On August 4, 1943, he married Kaye Mae Lee. She died June 25, 1982. He then married Irene Brubaker on June 18, 1983. Ray repaired musical instruments at Hiltbruner Music Company and later retired from West Music.
He was a member of American Legion Post No. 298 of Marion.
