Ray Rentschler, 87, of 109 Josephine Lane N.W., Cedar Rapids, died Saturday, May 15, 2004, in his home, following a long illness. Services: 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, May 19, 2004, at St. Jude?s Catholic Church, Cedar Rapids, by the Rev. Don Czapla. Entombment: Linwood Cemetery Mausoleum, Cedar Rapids. Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. Tuesday, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids, where a rosary will be held at 7:00 p.m.
Survivors include his wife, Ella Mae; three daughters, Janet Frongello of Mesa, Arizona, Margaret Mary McBride of Gordonville, Texas, and Jean Ann Rentschler-Pires and husband Keith, of La Palma, California; nine grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Kathryn Rentschler; two brothers, Carl and Emery Rentschler; and two sisters, Grace Farris and Hazel Grove.
He was born December 19, 1916, in Kansas City, Kansas, to Charles and Margaret Dobson Rentschler. On February 18, 1938, in Kansas City, Kansas, he married Ella Mae Campbell. For many years, Ray worked as a meat grader for the USDA, until he retired in 1981. He was a member of St. Jude?s Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus, where he served as a 4th Degree Knight and was a former Grand Knight.
