Ray W. Long, 67, of 285 Wroble Drive, died Friday, October 25, 2002, at his home, following a short illness. Services: 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, October 29, 2002, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center in Marion by Rev. Thelma Hembroff. Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Military rites by American Legion Post No. 298 of Marion. Burial: Oak Shade Cemetery, Marion.
Survivors include his children, Jennifer Brandt and husband Jason of Cedar Rapids, Kim Swore and husband Jack Greenhaw of Cedar Rapids, Mark Swore of Center Point, Anderea Long of Cedar Rapids, Lance Long and wife Anastasia of Lancaster, California, Lori McCormick of Cedar Rapids and Kirk Long and wife Michele of Las Vegas, Nevada; his sister, Shirley Collins of Marion; fourteen grandchildren, including Stefon Curd Brandt, Jackson Greenhaw, Kyleigh and Sierra Brandt, and Anna, Josh, Jeffrey, Jacob, Aaron and Hanah; and eight great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Dana Long; and a sister, LaVonne "Bonnie? Freeman.
Ray was born June 14, 1935, the son of Ray C. and Nellie (Burgin) Long in Cedar Rapids. He graduated from Marion High School and attended college at the University of Iowa. Ray served with the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean Conflict. Ray had many different talents and was fortunate to pursue many different career opportunites. He was a General Service Technician for Goodyear for many years, retiring in 1998. He married Carol Cooper, they had five children and later divorced. He later married Ruby Swore. Together, they raised three children and later divorced. Ray was a 20 year member of the Fellowship Club, a V.A. Volunteer Driver and an avid fisherman. He loved football, camping and spending time with his grandchildren.
Ray was a loving father and grandfather. He was dearly loved and will be greatly missed.
