Ray C. Hard, II, 78, of 1124 15th Street SE, Cedar Rapids, died Thursday, December 25, 2008, at University Hospitals, Iowa City, following a sudden illness. Services: 2:00 p.m. Monday, December 29, 2008, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids, where the family will greet friends from 1 p.m. until service time, with military honors. Ruth Hard will officiate. Burial: Linwood Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include his wife, Lydia; his children, Ray (Penny) Hard, III of Palo, Ricky (Samantha) Hard of Cedar Rapids and Russell (Kim) Hard of Center Point; 28 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; two brothers, Charles (Cindy) Hard of Cedar Rapids and Robert (Ruth) Hard of Woodville, Wisconsin; and two sisters, Julia (Ernie) Ohlhauser of Cedar Rapids and Mary Kay (John) Wickman of Alburnett.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Roxann Colby; two brothers, James and Ronald; a sister, Rosie; a sister, Rosie; and Magie.
Ray was born January 1, 1930, the son of Ray and Bernice (Duncan) Hard I, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. He served with the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. On May 9, 1953, Ray was united in marriage to Lydia Constant in Stillwater, Minnesota. He worked for Wilson’s Packing, retiring after 30 years of service. Ray was a member of the Local P3
