Rawlins P. Rhodes, 83, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, died Sunday, December 13, 2020, at Dennis & Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy, Hiawatha. Private services were held. Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service assisted the family.
Rawlins was born January 11, 1937, in Clear Lake, Iowa, the son of Leroy and Edith (Fauchier) Rhodes. He graduated from Wilson High School and attended the University of Iowa. Rawlins married Carrol Chipokas on November 8, 2014, at St. John the Baptist Greek Orthodox Church, Cedar Rapids. Rawlins worked in IT for most of his career. He loved to write and authored several books. Rawlins was a member of St. John the Baptist Greek Orthodox Church. He had great love for his church family and co-op community. Rawlins enjoyed playing games; particularly chess, and the fellowship at the “Old Man’s Club” that met for coffee at Hy-Vee.
Survivors include his wife, Carrol Rhodes of Cedar Rapids; daughter, Michelle Sherman of Marion; brother, Byron (Marjoan) Rhodes of Cedar Rapids; step sons, Marcus Johnson of Solon and Bryan Johnson of Colorado; as well as his grand and great-grandchildren. He was a kind soul and touched the hearts of all who knew him.
Rawlins was preceded in death by his parents; sons, Scott and David Rhodes; and sister, Dottie Morris.
