Ralph W. Potter, 87, of 1950 East Post Road, Marion, died Friday September 14, 2007, at Willow Gardens Care Center following a brief illness. Services: 1:00 p.m. Thursday September 20, 2007 at Murdoch Funeral Home and Cremation Center, Marion by Rev. Mike Morgan. The family will greet friends from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Sept 19, 2007 at the funeral home. Burial: Cedar Memorial Park, with military honors.
Surviving are his sons, Robert (Denise) Potter and Boyd (Barb) Potter, all of Marion; four grandchildren, Tina Potter of Dallas, Texas, Jason (Heather) Potter of Maple Bluff, Wisconsin, Charles (Stefanie) Potter of Marion, and Stacy (Greg) Hanna of East Peoria, Illinois; and three great-grandchildren, Sydney, Caroline and Marguerite Potter.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Helen Potter; his wife, Helen and his brother, Stanley.
Ralph was born July 29, 1920 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. He graduated from Washington High school in Cedar Rapids. Ralph proudly served in the United States Marine Corps during World War II. On May 2, 1945, he was married to Helen E. Drake in Marion. He owned Potter Real Estate, was a former Mayor of Marion and served in the Iowa Senate. He worked as a field representative for U.S. Senator Roger Jepson and later served as District Director for the U.S. Small Business Administration, retiring in 1989. He dearly enjoyed his family and friends, politics and the Chicago Cubs.
