Ralph V. Kula, 97, of Prairieburg, died Tuesday, August 16, 2005, at his home, following a brief illness. Services: 10 a.m. Saturday, August 20, 2005, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Prairieburg by Rev. David Ambrosy. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Friday, August 19, 2005, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Central City. A rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m. by the North Linn Cluster Knights of Columbus #12136. Burial: St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, Prairieburg.
Survivors include eleven children, Eugene (Barb) Kula of Anamosa, Ronald (Colleen) Kula of Prairieburg, Kenneth (Judy) Kula of Central City, Margaret (Darrel) Grassfield of Anamosa, Karen (John) Bulman of Marion, Sharen (Dennis) Dolan of Bentonville, Arkansas, Gary (Loraine) Kula of Mt. Vernon, Joann (Chuck) Madison of Marion, Roberta (Allan) Haley of Central City, LaVerne Kula (Veriah Myers) of Monticello and Arnold (Linda) Kula of Anamosa; thirty-nine grandchildren; sixty great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Geraldine; three brothers, Earl, Bernard and Edward; and a grandson, Shawn Power.
Ralph was born July 30, 1908, the son of Frank R. and Anna (Buchtela) Kula in rural Linn County. On October 19, 1938, he married Geraldine Barnes in Stone City. She died November 11, 1997. Ralph and his brother Bernard had a band and played for dances and social functions. He was a farmer and a collector of John Deere Machinery. He was a photographer for weddings and school pictures. Ralph was one of the founders of the Prairieburg Telephone Company and served thirty-five years as a repair man.
