Rachel L. Cornette, 99, of 3950 Cummings Ford Road, Center Point, Iowa, passed away peacefully Tuesday, August 3, 2010, at Mercy Medical Center, Cedar Rapids. Services: 10:00 a.m., Friday, August 6, 2010, at Sacred Heart Church, Walker, by Father Ardel Barta. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m., Thursday, August 5, 2010, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Center Point, where a vigil service will be held at 7:30 p.m. Burial: Sacred Heart Cemetery, Walker.
Survivors include her daughters, Ramona (Donald) Williams of Marion, Iowa, and Joyce Monck of Marion, Iowa; six grandchildren, Shelly (Fred) Morris, Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin, Bryan Williams, Clear Lake, Iowa, Traci (Paul) Gavin, Marion, Iowa, Jeff (Shielly) Monck, Monticello, Iowa, Terry (Patti) Monck, Monticello, Iowa and Jodi (Keven) Hendrickson, Robins, Iowa; 13 great grandchildren, Spencer, Trent, Meghan, Kailee, Brittany, Logan, Amanda, Nikelle, Brandon, Nicole, Paige, Andrew and Carson; brother-in-law, Vernon Brecht; and many nieces and nephews.
Rachel was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Frank; and son-in-law, Leonard Monck; and siblings, Gentil Lyphout, Arshel Lyphout, Henry Lyphout and Selma Brecht.
Born June 27, 1911, in Moline, Illinois, Rachel was the daughter of Camiel and Pharaielda (Deprez) Lyphout. On December 30, 1931, she was united in marriage to Frank Cornette. He died January 10, 1995.
Rachel’s joys were gardening, crocheting, embroidering and making homemade bread.
