Max was born April 26, 1913, the son of Reuben and Mary (Webb) Smith in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. On July 31, 1940, he married Bernice Ring and the couple made their home in Cedar Rapids. Max worked at the Witwer Company, Cedar Rapids National City Lines and then owned and operated the R. Max Smith Garage at 616 16th Street NE for over 50 years.
Max loved the Lord and shared this love with others. His devotion was to tell others that Jesus died for them and salvation comes by believing in the Lord Jesus Christ. Max would want you to know John 3:16: "For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have everlasting life.? He would also like you to know John 3:36; "Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life; but whoever rejects the Son will not see life, for God?s wrath remains on him.? He would add, Romans 5:8, "But God demonstrates His own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.? and Ephesians 2:8, 9: "For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith - and this not from yourselves; it is the gift of God-not by works, so that no one can boast.?
Max was a devoted husband, father, and friend and will be deeply missed by family and friends.
Memorials may be given to the charity of one?s choice in memory of Max.
Max?s family greatly appreciates the kindness and care given him by the doctors and nurses at Mercy Hospital and Living Center West.
