R. L. Samuelson, 87, of 3124 Alleghany Drive N.E., died Sunday, July 24, 2005, in Mercy Medical Center, from complications of a stroke. Memorial Services:1:30 p.m. Wednesday, July 27, 2005, at Kenwood Park United Methodist Church, by the Rev. Laura Smith. The family will greet friends immediately following services on Wednesday at the church. Arrangements by Murdoch Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Marion.
Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Miriam; a son, Larry ( Jeanine) Samuelson of Angola, Indiana; a daughter, Janet (Joe) Albrecht of Breezy Point, Minnesota; a sister, Nadine Reeves of Boone; and a brother, Boysel Samuelson of Boone.
Also surviving are two granddaughters, Amy and Heidi Samuelson. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Harold and Jack Samuelson.
Sam was born on January 29, 1918, in Boone to Hugo and Emma Swanson Samuelson. He graduated from Boone High School in 1935 and received a degree in Electrical Engineering from Indiana Tech in Fort Wayne, Indiana, in 1951. Sam was united in marriage to Miriam Whipple on August 22, 1943, in Agency, Iowa. He served in the U.S. Navy as a Chief Petty officer during World War II.
Sam was employed as a Quality Control Engineer at Rockwell Collins for thirty years. He was an active member of Kenwood Park United Methodist Church, Elks Lodge No. 251 of Cedar Rapids, Disabled American Veterans, and had volunteered for Greene Square Meals, Inc.
