Quentin W. Gilds, 88, of Cedar Rapids, died in his home, Saturday, June 27, 2009. Services: 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, July 1, 2009, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids, by the Rev. Kevin Jones. Family will greet friends from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, June 30, 2009, at the funeral home and one hour prior to the service on Wednesday. Burial: Linwood Cemetery, Cedar Rapids, with military honors.
Survivors include his wife, Jena; four sons, Larry (Cara) of Cedar Rapids, Denny (Julie) of Marion and Randy (Sheri) of Anamosa and Michael (Bonnie) Goodrich of Cedar Rapids; 12 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and special person, Carol Gilds of Cedar Rapids.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Fritz and Bobby; and a sister, Dorothy Halter.
Quentin was born October 19, 1920, the son of William and Beatrice (Shelly) Gilds, in Cly, Pennsylvania. He served his country in the United States Navy for four years during World War II. Quentin was a member of the Navy band which played for Franklin D. Roosevelt’s funeral. He was a member of the Jack Douglas Band and his love of music continued throughout his life.
Quentin was married to Zora U. Shanklin from 1944 to 1967. He then married Jena Duncan Goodrich in Cedar Rapids on May 4, 1974. Quentin worked at LeFebure for 40 years. He was a charter member at the Lutheran Church of the Resurrection, where he had served as Sunday School Superintendent and director of the choir.
The family would like to thank Mercy Hospice for their kind care of our husband and father.
