Phillip “Phil” Clarence Welsch, 80, of Marion, formerly of Springville, died Monday, April 15, 2013, at his home. Funeral Service: 1:00 p.m. Saturday, April 20, 2013, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center, Marion, by Rev. Beth Hilkerbaumer. The family will greet friends from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.
Survivors include his wife, Patricia; his children, Julie (Steve) Martin of House Springs, MO, Alan (Brenda) Welsch of Solon, and Susan (Kelly) Koch of Iowa City; sister, Bonnie Edgington of Rose Hill, KS; six grandchildren, Heather, Allison, Lindsey, Amanda, Andy, and Alex; and four great-grandchildren, Dylan, Hannah, Zander, and Aaron.
He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Kathi Welsch; four brothers, Robert, Dean, Ron, and Bill Welsch; and nephew, Steve.
Phil was born July 29, 1932, in Muscatine, Iowa, the son of Clarence J. and Felma (Bridges) Welsch. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy having served during the Korean War. Phil married Patricia Ditch on August 9, 1953, in Muscatine. He worked as a plumber for over 50 years. Phil was a member of Mount Hermon Masonic Lodge #263 A.F. & A.M of Cedar Rapids, El Kahir Shrine, Union Local #125, American Legion Post #298 of Marion, and Springville Presbyterian Church.
