Philip (Phil) W. Airy, 62, of Shellsburg, died Friday, January 28, 2011, at his home, after a 3-year battle with Amyloidosis. Services: 10:30 a.m., Saturday, February 5, 2011, at Marion Christian Church, Marion, Iowa. The family will greet friends from 4 – 8 p.m., Friday, February 4, 2011, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center, Marion, and one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday. Burial: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery, Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Military honors provided by American Legion Post #421, Central City, Iowa.

Survivors include his wife, Linda (Welton) Airy; children, Michelle Tegeler, Vaughn and Ruthann Airy, Tami Duran, and Jason Duran; grandchildren, Dalton and Delany Sturtz, and Kaitlyn and Lauryn Airy; 1 brother; 1 sister, Carol Davis; honorary brothers and sister, Roger Inger, and Frank and Gail Rinderknecht; many nieces, nephews, and cousins; mother-in-law Odette Welton and special friend Jack Mills, sister-in-law Suzanne Welton; and brother-in-law Mike Welton.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Phil was born August 16, 1948, the son of Loren and Verna (Smith) Airy, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. He graduated from Linn-Mar High School in 1966. Phil served in the National Guard for 6 years. He married Linda Welton on October 10, 2003 at the Little Brown Church. Phil was a lifelong farmer and most recently he worked for Kenworth in Cedar Rapids. He had many interests of which flying and Ham radio operator were among his favorites. Phil was an honorable, loving man who will be missed by many.
