Pete Rudish, Sr., 80, a resident of Rock Ridge Care Center in Shellsburg, formerly of the Springville/Whittier area, died Saturday, May 21, 2005, at the care center, following a short illness. Services: 10:30 a.m. Thursday, May 26, 2005, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center in Marion by Rev. Del Bear. Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial: Springville Cemetery with military honors.
Survivors include his children, Janice (Gary) Schuch of Alburnett, Jackie (Joe) Svoboda of Albany, Georgia, Pete (Joyce) Rudish, Jr. of Mt. Vernon, Johnny Rudish of Anamosa, Connie (Steve) Luker of Anamosa, Mike (Tracy) Rudish of Whittier, Andrea (Kelly) Stick of Baton Rouge, Louisiana and Penny Gustoff of Riverside; a sister, Mary Null of Marion; fifteen grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; three brothers, George, Frank and Chuck Rudish; and a son-in-law, Steve Gustoff, Sr.
Pete was born June 7, 1924, the son of George and Rose (Pospisil) Rudish in Cedar Rapids. He served in the US Army during WWII and on February 4, 1946, he married Zona Gale Robison. She died in 1989. He was an operating engineer for over forty years and had farmed all of his life. He was a former member of St. Isidore Catholic Church in Springville and Operating Engineers Local #234 of Cedar Rapids.
Pete loved bowling, children, and the holidays were a very special time to him. He was dearly loved and will be greatly missed.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in Pete?s memory.
Military honors will be provided by American Legion Post No. 331 of Springville.
