Perry Jayne, 90, of Cedar Rapids, formerly of rural Marion, died Monday, November 4, 2013. Funeral Service: 11:00 a.m. Friday, November 8, 2013, at New Covenant Bible Church in Cedar Rapids by Pastor Bruce Peterson and Pastor Mark Forstrom. Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. Thursday, November 7, 2013, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center in Marion. Graveside Service: 1:30 p.m. Friday, November 8, 2013, at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery in Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include three children, Andrea (Gaylon) Ideker of Princeton, Mark (Kathy) Jayne of Marion, and Robin Holub of Marion; five grandchildren, Rachelle Neill, Chadwick Jayne, Christopher Jayne, Brock (Sarah) Holub, and Logan Holub; four great-grandchildren, Harbor and Helena Neill, and Trace and Ryker Holub.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Helen; a grandson, Todd Ideker; and his sister, Florence Williams.
Perry was born September 12, 1923, the son of Perry D. and Edna (Prochaska) Jayne in Cedar Rapids. On September 10, 1947, he married Helen M. Wilson in Cedar Rapids. She died July 30, 1998. Perry served with the U.S. Army Air Force during WWII. He was a successful pig farmer for 34 years.
Perry came to know the Lord at age 33. He loved the Lord and shared his knowledge with others by teaching Sunday school, leading Bible studies and mentoring younger men. He began most days by walking 3-4 miles and praying for others as he walked. Perry and members of his family traveled to Kenya 5 times in the last 6 years. Perry was a dedicated father, grandfather, and husband. He also enjoyed time spent caring for his mother and aunt. Perry loved dogs, riding horses, gardening, woodworking, playing cards, tennis, waterskiing, and fishing trips to Canada.
