Pearl V. Smith, 86, of 5012 1st Avenue N.W., Cedar Rapids, died Friday, July 21, 2006, St. Luke?s Hospital, Cedar Rapids, following a short illness. A gathering of family and friends will be 6 - 8 p.m. Wednesday, July 26, 2006 at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids. Burial will be at a later date in Gilman, Iowa.
Survivors include a daughter, Nancy Adams of Cedar Rapids; and son, Robert Smith of Houston, TX.
Also surviving are several grandchildren; great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Beverly; a daughter, Betty Owens who died in 1999; and a granddaughter, Tamie Smith in 1983.
Pearl was born April 2, 1920, in Ferguson, IA, the son of Harry and Elgie (Wilson) Smith. He worked 12 years for the Milwaukee Railroad, 11 years for the Spring Factory and 16 years for the Midwest Company as a heavy equipment operator in the stone quarry.
Pearl enjoyed gardening, bingo and playing the harmonica.
