Paull Arthur Lillie, 83, of Marion, formerly of Alburnett, died Friday, February 14, 2003, at St. Luke?s Hospital, following an extended illness. Services: 11 a.m. Wednesday, February 19, 2003, at Alburnett Christian Church by Pastor Dan Peterson. Friends may call from 3-7 p.m. Tuesday at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center in Marion. Burial: Lafayette Cemetery, rural Alburnett with military rites by Wapsi American Legion Post No. 421 of Central City.
Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Dorothea; two sons, Arthur of Aurora, Illinois and Barth of San Francisco, California; a brother, Willis Lillie and wife Beverly of Marion; a sister, Ida Jane Mollenhauer of Hiawatha; two brothers-in-law, Howard Powers of Marion and Richard Wilson of Boone; and two grandchildren, Tonya Lillie and husband Mark Cisek of Chicago, Illinois and Daniel Lillie and fiance Bridget Chambers of Wheaton, Illinois.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Alma Bugg, Georgia Wilson and Charlotte Powers; and a brother-in-law, Robert Mollenhauer.
Paull was born June 21, 1919, the son of Daniel Kemp and Lillie Belle (Slater) Lillie in rural Central City. He graduated from Alburnett High School in 1937. On June 8, 1944, he married Dorothea Serveson on his parent's farm. Paull served as a Lieutenant with the U.S. Army in the Pacific Theatre during WWII. He farmed all his life before his retirement. Paull was a member of the Alburnett Christian Church, a charter member of Alburnett Lions Club, past president and board member of Linn Co-op, board member of Alburnett Farmers Elevator, member of Linn County Fair board, past board member of Federal Land Bank, honorary member of Linn Co. Extension Office, leader and member of 4H for many years, where he was well known for his purebred Angus cattle and rabbits, founding president of Alburnett Historical Society and past board member of Linn Co. ASCS office. He was also a member of Trojan Lodge #548 AF & AM of Marion, Cedar Rapids Consistory and El Kahir Shrine.
A memorial fund has been established in Paull?s memory.
