Pauline Wilma Burmeister Breed, 95, passed on to be with our Lord at Linn Manor Care Center in Marion on May 9, 2008. Inurnment: 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, May 14, 2008, at Oak Shade Cemetery, Marion, Iowa by Rev. Jay Miller. Arrangements by Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center, Marion, Iowa.

Survivors include two children, David (Jean) Breed of Tulsa, Oklahoma and Nancy Breed of Marion; two nephews, Richard Benassi of Maryland and Mark Benassi of Colorado; and a special second cousin, Kathryn Louise Smyth of Cedar Rapids.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband.

Pauline was born October 23, 1912, the daughter of Charles Arthur and Bertha Margret (Schloeman) Burmeister, in Center Junction, Iowa. She graduated from Center Junction High School in 1930. She then attended Cedar Rapids Business College and Coe College. Pauline married William M. Breed on October 15, 1939. Bill died in 1993. Pauline was “The Original Dutch Girl” for the Kreb’s Dutch Girl Ice Cream Company. She later worked in the accounts payable department at Killian’s Department Store and then worked at Linn-Mar Community Schools for 18 years from 1959-1977 as the Superintendent’s secretary for five superintendents: Clifford Wilkins, James Baine, Leroy Kruscup, Ken Patton, and Glen Easterday. Pauline’s mission in her later years was to write letters to family and friends.
