Paul “Vernon” Jackson, 93, passed from this earthly life to his home in heaven on Monday, January 18, 2010. Celebration of Life Service: 10:30 a.m. Saturday, January 23, at First Assembly of God Church, Cedar Rapids, by the Rev. Rick Gail. Visitation: 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, January 22, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home, Cedar Rapids. Burial: Linwood Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include his children, Janice (George) Mullen of Albemarle, North Carolina, Sharon (Tot) Taylor of Oxford Junction, Pauline (Virgil) Griffis, of Mount Pleasant and Paul Jackson of Council Bluffs; nine grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; one sister, Merlyn Blumer of Ottumwa; and one brother, Glenn of Merritt Island, Florida.
He was preceded in death by his wife; parents; four brothers, Berle, Leonard, Arley and Lyle; a grandson, Scott Taylor; a great-grandson, Nicholas Taylor, Jr.; and daughter-in-law, Shirley.
Vernon was born May 16, 1916, the son of Paul and Dora (Spaulding) Jackson, in Brookings, South Dakota. He married Edna Jernberg on June 14, 1936. Vernon was a homebuilder, realtor and loved to design and make wood figures and knick-knacks. He enjoyed camping, traveling, reading and visiting museums on the history of trains. Vernon was a great cook and loved to make meals for his family. He was a member of First Assembly of God Church.
Vernon will be forever remembered for his hard work, love of life, love of family, helping others, and smiles when anyone came to visit. He was loved by all who knew him and will be greatly missed.
A memorial fund has been established in memory of Vernon.
