Paul A. Swalley, 77, of Swisher, Iowa, died Sunday, March 23, 2008, at home following a long illness. Services: 11:00 a.m., Thursday, March 27, 2008, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids, by the Rev. Sheryll Untiedt. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m., Wednesday, March 26, 2008, at the funeral home. Burial: Anderson Cemetery, Swisher, with military honors.
Survivors include his loving wife of 36 years, Mary; children, Laurie (Gerry) Lindsay of Cedar Rapids, Catherine (Joseph) Wagner of North Liberty, Janie (Tim) Woodside of Cedar Rapids and Dora (Bill) Sampson of Shellsburg; six grandchildren; six great grandchildren; one brother, Henry (Bev) Swalley of Marion; two nieces and two nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; grandparents; and one half-brother.
Paul was born January 13, 1931, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, the son of Harry and Louise (Plowman) Swalley. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII in Germany. On November 4, 1972, in Springville, Iowa, he was united in marriage to Mary Bishop. Paul was employed briefly for Iowa Mann and Rockwell Collins. In 1964, he began his career at College Community Schools where he worked in maintenance and as a bus driver prior to his retirement in 2007.
Paul was a member of the Shueyville United Methodist Church.
