Paul J. Supple, 81, of Marion, died Saturday, August 11, 2012, at Mercy Medical Center in Cedar Rapids due to complications from surgery. Funeral Mass: 10:30 a.m. Thursday, August 16, 2012, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Marion. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center in Marion where a vigil will begin at 7:30. Graveside Service: 2:30 p.m. at Immaculate Conception Cemetery in Castle Grove, Iowa.
Survivors include his wife, Betty; four children, Tresa (Warren) Davis of Marion, Daniel (Kimberly) Supple of Bella Vista, Arkansas, David (Rhonda) Supple of Marion, and Rebecca (Vaude)Wilford of Marion; four grandchildren, Jamie (Rachel) Davis of San Antonio, Texas, Danielle (Taylor) Howard of Stillwater, Oklahoma, Ashley (Jeff) Zierath of Cedar Rapids, and Blake Supple of Cedar Rapids; step-grandsons, Zack & Eli Matthess of Marion; a sister-in-law, Virginia Supple of Hopkinton; brother-in-law, Larry Stoneking of Monticello; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Joseph Jr., Justin, and Bernard; a sister, Mary (Gee) Stoneking; and step-grandson, Tyler Peterson.
Paul was born March 28, 1931, the son of Joseph and Genevieve (Evers) Supple in Castle Grove, Iowa. Paul served with the U.S. Army from 1954-1956. On October 3, 1956, he married Betty J. Vanourney in Central City. He worked as a carpenter at Allied Construction for 32 years and later for Harger Acoustics. After retirement he worked as a school bus driver for the Linn-Mar School District and as a warning truck driver for the paint crew for the Iowa DOT. Up until this summer he worked part time at Triple E as an important summer handyman. Paul was willing to give a helping hand to whoever needed it.
Paul was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Marion, American Legion Post No. 298 of Marion, and United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America Local Union 0308.
Paul was a loving husband, caring and supportive Dad, an adoring Grandpa, and a devoted friend who will be missed greatly.
