Paul Richardson, 83, of Walker, formerly of Manchester, died Saturday, November 15, 2008, at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy, Hiawatha following complications of a stroke. Services: 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, November 18, 2008, at the Walker United Methodist Church, by the Rev. Norman Kelley. The family will greet friends from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday, November 17, 2008, at the Bohnenkamp-Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Manchester. Burial: Oakland Cemetery, Manchester, with military honors.
Survivors include his wife, Winona; triplet daughters, Sharon Cook of Altoona, Sheryl Richardson of Des Moines and Sharlene (David) Traver of Ryan; his son, Bruce (Micki) of Manchester; a grandson, Nathan Cook of Altoona; stepgrandchildren, Tad and Alexa Brace of Manchester; a brother, Louis of Loveland, Colorado; and a sister, Jean Smith of Manchester.
Paul was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Blanche Richardson, Doris Black, Marjorie Aldrich and Margaret Pillard; and a brother, Ivan.
Paul was born March 16, 1925, the son of Russell and Emma (Zumbach) Richardson, in Coggon, Iowa. A graduate from Coggon High School, he served his country in the United States Army with the 84th Division of 334 Company C. He was a farmer who loved working on the farm and still was a farmer at heart. Paul also worked at Allis Chalmers, Collins, Iowa Manufacturing and General Mills.
On August 22, 2000, Paul married Winona (Butterfield) Lown. His eyes always lit up when she walked into the room. Paul truly enjoyed the many trips all over the United States to the Army reunions. He always looked forward to seeing his military family. Paul was a member of the United Methodist Church and the Manchester American Legion.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Dennis & Donna Hospice House of Mercy, Hiawatha or to the Manchester American Legion, in memory of Paul.
