Paul McQuown, 83, of Springville, Iowa, passed away on Thursday, May 13, 2021, at Dennis & Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy in Hiawatha, Iowa. The family will greet friends from 4 – 7 p.m. on Thursday, May 20, 2021, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Marion, Iowa. A Funeral Service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, May 21, 2021, at the funeral home. A livestream of the funeral service may be accessed on the funeral home website tribute page for Paul, under “photos and videos or media,” starting at 10:30 a.m. on Friday. Burial will follow the service at Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
Paul was born on July 23, 1937, in St. Paul, Minnesota, the son of James and Roeine (House) McQuown. At the carnation greenhouse in Colorado he met his future wife, Ruth Sullivan. On June 14, 1963, in Hamilton, Montana, they were united in marriage. He was employed at Ralston Foods in Cedar Rapids, working on the line packing oats. Paul enjoyed old cars, telling tall tales and painting. Paul will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
He is survived and lovingly remembered by his children, Peggy (Andy) Burnett of Lisbon, Iowa, Paula McQuown of Springville, Allen McQuown of Springville and Eric (Malisa) McQuown of Marion; three grandchildren, Brandon, Dustin (Kayla), and Brittany (Alex Luerkins) Burnett; four great-grandchildren, Aundrea, Aleeya, Addison, and Ashdyn; and siblings, James McQuown of Longmont, Colorado, Karene Yonkovic of Lisbon, Nancy Coleman of Marion, and Gary McQuown of Cedar Rapids.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Ruth; grandson, Jamie Burnett; two grandchildren too beautiful for earth; an infant brother, Anthony John; sister-in-law, Mary Lou McQuown, and brothers-in-law, Bert Coleman and Ray Yonkovic.
