Paul F. Kerkman, 89, of 3100 Johnson Avenue N.W., died Sunday morning, April 3, 2005, in Heritage Nursing & Rehab Center, Cedar Rapids, following a long illness. Services: 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 5, 2005, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids, by the Rev. Rick Gail. Burial: Linwood Cemetery, Cedar Rapids, with military rites. Friends may call at the funeral home from 4-8 p.m. today (Monday).

Survivors include his wife, Della; two daughters, Carol Ann (Robert) Achey and Alma Ruth Golladay of; two sons, John David (Lynda) Kerkman and James Richard Kerkman, all of Cedar Rapids; eight grandchildren including his namesake, Airman First Class, Paul Kerkman of London, England; six great-grandchildren; and a sister, Erna Kranz of Vinton, Iowa.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two wives, Gladys Elizabeth and Lucille Mary; three sons, Ronald Donald and Robert Kerkman; a grandson, William Golladay; three brothers, Carl, Eldon and Harold Kerkman; and three sisters, Freda Corporan, Hilda Dolge and Viola Grogan.

He was born February 23, 1916, in Van Horne, Iowa, the son of George and Martha Conrad Kerkman. He served with the U.S. Navy on the U.S.S. Oklahoma at Pearl Harbor during World War II. For fifty years, he worked in construction as an electrician with Esco Electric and IBEW Local#405. On January 19, 1990, in Kirksville, Missouri, he married Della Agnes Hollandsworth. Paul was a member of the American Legion and enjoyed working on televisions, playing harmonica, singing and traveling.

A memorial fund has been established.
