Paul W. Johnston, 61, a resident of Greenwood Manor, Iowa City, formerly of Hiawatha, died there Thursday, July 8, 2004, following a long illness. Services: 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, July 13, 2004, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Cedar Rapids by Rev. Del Bear. Friends may call from 5-7 p.m., Monday, July 12, 2004, at the funeral home. Burial: Hopkinton Cemetery, Hopkinton, Iowa, with military rites.
Survivors include his children, Karen Gardner and husband Michael of Eugene, Oregon, and Mark Johnston and wife Becci of Desoto, Kansas; his two grandchildren, Bailey and Keegan Johnston; his brothers, Donald Johnston and wife Kathy of Marion and Walter Johnston and wife Debra of Mechanicsville; his sisters, Joan Cross and husband Jim of Cedar Rapids and Bev Johnston of Mechanicsville; a special friend, Judy Stewart of Cedar Rapids and seven nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Dorothy Johnston; a brother, William and a sister, Janet.
Paul was born May 14, 1943, the son on Walter G. and Dorothy (Richardson) Johnston in Belle Plaine, Iowa. He married Frances Hawley of Anamosa on October 3, 1965, and later divorced. Paul served in the U.S. Navy from 1964 - 1967. He worked as a computer operator. Paul was a member of the American Trapshooting Association and enjoyed trapshooting, golfing and loved to ride motorcycles.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association in Paul?s memory.
